Synthesis

What I assessed during analysis gets synthisised into different forms.
These tools later aid me during ideation and design to check whether the objectives are met.

Design goals

This method is very useful for very high-level guiding principles.

If done well and being the design counterpart to the strategic goals, they can carry you a long ways!

Because they are few in number and basic in nature, they get internalized over time, and are a great help for your day to day decison taking. Also within a team to follow along a common understanding.
I.e. at the HR software company I established design rules early in my tenure when it became apparent that there will be a number of redesigns and also entirely new products, for which I need some common goals, which cannot be addressed by the more specific design tools such as user stories and context scenarios.

These were the design goals I established at the HR software company:

Boil the amount of UIs down to the essentials

Reduce the dozens of actions and UIs to a few very generic but very capable UIs

  • One
  • Two
